🔐 How to Share Access with Others Using TTLock (Without Losing Your Mind)

It’s tutorial time again! 😄

In our last article, we talked about how to add your smart lock to TTLock. But once that’s done, the first thing most people want to do is make sure they can get in themselves—which means setting up your fingerprint.

Then comes the next question:

“How do I let someone else in?”

You’re probably eager to test things out by sending an eKey to your family or friends—just to see if they can actually open the door, right? But… how exactly do you do that?

Don’t worry, I’m here to help.

Whether it’s your partner, an Airbnb guest arriving at midnight, or the cleaner who somehow always shows up ten minutes early, TTLock makes sharing access surprisingly easy—once you know where to tap.

Here’s how to share access like a pro (and no, you don’t need to be a tech wizard to pull it off), let’s talk about what they are—and how they’re different.

👆 Step 1: Add Your Fingerprint (Because You’re the Boss)

Let’s be real—before you hand out digital keys like candy, you probably want to make sure you can get in without a hitch.

ree

Here’s how to add your fingerprint to your TTLock-enabled smart lock:

  1. Open the TTLock app

  2. Tap on your lock

  3. Go to Fingerprint Management or Fingerprint (depends on your lock model)

  4. Tap Add Fingerprint

  5. Enter a name (e.g., “Jennifer”, “Main User”, or “Queen of the House”)

  6. Set access type:

    • Permanent: They can access anytime

    • Timed: Pick a start and end time

    • Recurring: e.g., every Monday from 9:00–11:00

  7. Follow the on-screen instructions to scan your finger.

Usually requires 6–8 taps. Don’t rush—slow and steady helps with accuracy.

  8. Tap Save

📌 Note: You must be standing near the lock during this process with Bluetooth enabled.

💡 Pro tip: Try adding a few fingers from both hands, just in case you're juggling shopping bags or your phone dies on you.

Forced fingerprint: Click the **"Forced fingerprint" to add a forced fingerprint. If someone forces you to open door, you can use this fingerprint. The alarm message will be sent to the administors. To use this feature, please make sure your lock is online.

🧑‍💼 User Roles in TTLock: Who Can Do What?

Before you start handing out access, it’s good to know the different user levels in TTLock—and what each one can (and can’t) do.

There are three types of users:

Role

What They Can Do

Administrator

That’s you—the boss. You added the lock, so you have full control: adding users, setting passcodes, exporting data, and managing everything.

Authorized Administrator

Think of this as your second-in-command. They can add users and manage access, but don’t have permission for sensitive stuff like resetting the lock or exporting records.

User

A regular user who can unlock the door via app, fingerprint, or code—but can’t manage anything else. Perfect for guests, family, or anyone who just needs access, not control.

Here’s a quick breakdown of permissions:

Action

Administrator

Authorized Admin

Manage Reset Key

Export Unlock Records

Create Authorized Admins

Subscribe to Premium Features

Transfer/Delete Lock

View Admin Passcode

Import Data from Other Lock

Connect Alexa/Google Home

Configure Attendance Mode

Set Unlock Notifications

Require Online Unlock

🧠 Pro tip: If you're managing an Airbnb or rental, you might want to add a co-host as an authorized admin—so they can help guests but can’t accidentally reset the whole system.

🔑 eKey vs. Passcode: What’s the Difference?

Before you start sharing access, you’ll need to decide how you want to share it. TTLock gives you two main options: eKey and passcode.

🟦 eKey = App Access

An eKey is a digital key sent to someone’s smartphone through the TTLock app.

✅ Best for:

  • Tech-savvy users

  • Family or roommates who need regular access

  • People who already have (or are willing to install) the app

📱 How it works: You send them an eKey → they receive it in the TTLock app → they tap to unlock when near the door.

⚠️ Heads-up: They must download the TTLock app and sign up before using the eKey. No app, no entry!

🔲 Passcode = Keypad Access

A passcode is a number code you create and send to someone. They punch it in on the lock’s keypad to get in.

✅ Best for:

  • Short-term guests like Airbnb visitors

  • Cleaners or dog walkers

  • Anyone who doesn’t want to bother with an app

📱 How it works: You generate a code → they type it on the keypad → the door unlocks. Easy peasy.

⚠️ Heads-up: Some passcodes can expire, or only work during set times. Super useful if you don’t want them coming back uninvited 😅

🧠 Quick tip: You can set time limits or recurring schedules for both eKeys and passcodes. Want the cleaner to have access every Wednesday at 10 AM? Done. Want the Airbnb guest’s code to stop working at checkout? Easy.

📲 How to Send an eKey

Once you’ve picked the person you want to share access with (and made peace with the fact that they’ll now know how messy your hallway is), here’s how to send them an eKey:

ree

  1. Open the TTLock app

  2. Tap on your lock

  3. Tap “Send eKey” (usually under the “eKey” or “Authorized Admin” section)

  4. Enter their phone number or TTLock account email. Important: They need to be signed up in TTLock first!

  5. Choose the access type

    • Permanent: They can access anytime

    • Timed: Pick a start and end time

    • Recurring: e.g., every Monday from 9:00–11:00

  6. Tap “Send”

🧠 Tip: If they don’t see the eKey, ask them to log out and log back in. Works like magic.

📋 eKey Management Tips

  • You can view all eKeys in the app

  • Tap Reset in the top right to delete all of them

  • Tap into any eKey to view, change, freeze, or delete it

  • You can also forward an eKey by tapping “Send eKey” again

⚠️ Important Notices

  • 📱 If the recipient’s phone number is not registered, TTLock will automatically create a login account and password. You’ll need to send these to the recipient manually (via SMS, email, or carrier pigeon—your call).

  • 🌐 Remote unlocking requires a TTLock Gateway

  • 🇨🇳 Identity verification only works in China

  • 🔄 Reset must be done near the lock via Bluetooth

🔢 How to Create a Passcode

If your guest isn’t into downloading apps (or you just want a quick solution), a passcode is your best friend.

ree

Here’s how to set one up:

  1. Open the TTLock app

  2. Tap on your lock, then go to the Passcode section

  3. Tap Generate Passcode

  4. Choose a type (see below 👇)

  5. Enter a name (e.g., Mum, Guest1, Cleaner)

  6. Tap Save or Generate, and share the code

🔍 Choose the Passcode Type:

  • 🔒 Permanent: The code works forever—great for family or roommates. ⚠️ Not recommended for short-term guests.

  • Timed: Set a custom start and end time. Perfect for temporary access like deliveries or one-night stays.

  • 📅 Recurring: Set the code to work on specific days/times. Great for cleaners or dog walkers.

  • 🟦 Custom: You choose the code (4–9 digits) yourself.

  • 🔁 One-Time: Works once within 6 hours, then expires.

  • 🧨 Erase Passcode: This passcode deletes all other codes from the lock the moment it’s used.

📱 You can configure passcodes via Bluetooth when you're near the lock, or remotely if your lock is connected to Wi-Fi or a gateway.

⚠️ Notes & Limitations for Passcodes

  • 📋 You can view all your active passcodes in the TTLock app. Tap “Reset to delete them all at once.

  • Only passcodes that have been used on the lock can be edited or changed.

  • 🕓 Permanent, Timed, and Recurring codes must be used at least once after their start time—or they’ll become invalid automatically.

  • One-Time passcodes only work within 6 hours after being generated.

📬 Bonus: Message Template You Can Copy & Paste
