🦾 NEO: The First Real Home Robot Has Arrived

When the future finally knocks on your (smart-locked) door

Hey everyone! Have you seen this exciting news?

The kind of robot helpers we used to see only in movies are no longer just fiction —now you can actually buy one to fold your clothes and help with chores at home.

Just imagine: you’re coming home after a long day.No need to fumble for keys or press any buttons —a robot opens the door for you, turns on the lights, plays your favorite music, and welcomes you home like your own personal butler.

Technology is moving faster than we think. I used to believe that facial recognition smart locks already felt futuristic enough, but now, robots can literally take over your household tasks. From walking and dancing to truly lending a hand —the first real home robot has officially arrived.

🤖 Meet NEO — the new home robot from 1X Technologies

1X Technologies has just unveiled NEO, a humanoid robot designed for home use.According to the company, NEO can fold laundry, tidy up rooms, open doors, switch on lights, and even carry items around the house.

It weighs about 30 kg (66 lbs) and can lift up to 70 kg (154 lbs) — which means this isn’t just a fancy toy. It’s a capable household assistant that can physically interact with your environment.

NEO is now open for preorder in the U.S. at around $20,000, or on a subscription basis for $499 per month. The first units are expected to ship in 2026, with other markets — like Europe — to follow later.

If you want to see what this robot actually looks like (and move!), here’s the official link with all the photos + videos:

🏡 So what does this have to do with smart locks?

Many people see this kind of news and their first reaction is, “Wow, that’s so cool!” I can’t help but be amazed too!

But then I start thinking—if robots will be coming and going from homes in the future, what happens with the locks? How will they help open the door?

After all, anything that can freely enter and exit a home must be securely authorized. That means future smart locks won’t just recognize faces, but might also need to recognize “robot identities” —sounds like science fiction, but it’s actually closer than we think.

Imagine the integration of NEO with smart locks:

  • Unlocking doors with authorized digital codes

  • Granting access to guests and notifying homeowners

  • Automatically checking locks at night

This kind of smart interaction is exactly the next step for AI-powered home security.

In Ireland, smart locks may not yet be as widespread as in Asia, but the impact of this technology is undeniable. Being a pioneer in this change isn’t easy, since many still doubt new tech,or feel let down by cheap, low-quality imports from China.

But we’re committed to building a trusted brand, offering smart locks that truly bring convenience and security, and guiding more people toward a smarter, safer home future.

🔒 The future home: where locks and brains work together

We often talk about smart locks, but a truly smart home goes further than that. When robots can coordinate with your door locks, lighting, and sensors, your home becomes more than secure — it becomes responsive.

For those of us in the smart-access and property-tech industry, this shift is both a challenge and an opportunity.

Future homes, hotels, and student accommodations might require systems that can communicate with AI assistants directly. That raises new questions around security, authorization logic, and privacy — issues that go far beyond convenience.

Because when machines start opening doors, it’s not just about who has the key —it’s about who has the right to act inside your space.

⚙️ Looking ahead

I believe NEO is just the beginning.AI home robots will redefine what “smart living” truly means, and smart locks will be the first bridge connecting us with these machines.

Of course, the monthly rental fee of $499 for a home robot isn’t something every household can easily afford right now.

But the future of smart living is closer than we think.Would you be willing to give this lifestyle a try?
