Keep It Running Smoothly for Years
You’ve already made the decision to embrace new technology and bought your very first smart lock — congratulations! 🎉
For some using a smart lock for the first time can be a little nerve-racking. Hypothetically, What if you press the wrong button and lock yourself out? What if the fingerprint doesn’t work and your groceries are melting beside you?
Totally normal fears.
The good news? Just like a smartphone, if you treat your smart lock well, it’ll serve you faithfully for years to come.
But if you ignore it for too long… well… you might hear it whisper:

That’s why choosing a professional installer (like us at Bear & Me) makes all the difference. We don’t just sell you a lock and wave goodbye. We provide full after-sales support — so you never feel stuck.
You’ve invested in a smart lock — now let’s make sure it stays smart.
Here’s your no-fuss, slightly funny, yet 100% practical maintenance checklist:
✅ 1. Check Battery Levels Regularly
Smart locks run on power — make sure they won't run flat .
Your lock and app will give you an early low battery alert, don't miss it.
🧠 Pro Tip: Use high-quality alkaline batteries. Replace once a year, even if you think “they’re still fine", cold weather will decrease battery capacity.
✅ 2. Clean the Fingerprint Sensor and Keypad
Smudges, sunscreen, and the occasional fried chicken grease (no judgment) can all interfere with recognition.
You can just use a soft, slightly damp cloth — and for most sensors, that’s enough.
But if your lock’s been through some serious action (kids with sticky fingers, daily rentals, or an accidental sneeze), try this:
🧼 Best cleaning options:
A microfiber cloth with a bit of screen-safe cleaner
Alcohol wipes (70% isopropyl) – safe for most fingerprint glass sensors and keypads
A cotton swab dipped lightly in alcohol – great for cleaning around the edges or in small grooves
⚠️ What NOT to use:
Bleach, window cleaner, acetone, or any abrasive chemicals
Spraying anything directly onto the lock (spray onto cloth first)
Excess water (moist ≠ dripping!)
Once cleaned, let it dry completely before using the lock again.Treat it like you would your phone screen — except this one opens doors and keeps burglars out. So maybe even better.
✅ 3. Inspect the Lock Body and Screws
Loose screws = misalignment = door doesn’t close properly = stress.
Make sure that your lock work seamlessly to reduce wear and tear and prolong battery life.
If you're not sure how to do it properly, no worries, we're here.
✅ 4. Lubricate the Mechanical Parts
If your smart lock still has a keyhole or handle, give it some love too.
Use graphite-based lubricant (never oil!) once every 6–12 months.
It’s like giving your lock a spa day. Minus the cucumber slices.
✅ 5. Update the App and Firmware
You know those little updates you always ignore? They actually matter here. They bring better security, more features, and fewer bugs. Sometimes, they even make your lock faster and more responsive.
Because let’s face it — all tech needs a refresh once in a while. You wouldn’t want to rock the latest smart lock with the soul of a flip phone, right?
🧠 Pro Tip: Open your TTLock app and check for firmware updates every couple of months. It only takes one minute. You’ve spent longer choosing Netflix shows.

✅ 6. Review Access Logs & Permissions
Quick audit time! Ask yourself:
Who still has access to your lock?
Are there expired codes that should be deleted?
Is your admin password still stronger than “123456”?
But wait — don’t stop there!
👀 Check the access history to discover which unlocking method works best for each user.Maybe your partner always uses fingerprint, your teenager forgets the app and uses codes, and your cleaner uses the IC card.
👉 This insight helps you:
Remove unused options (less confusion)
Adjust settings (like extending code expiry)
Offer the most convenient method for each person
Because smart locks aren’t just about control — they’re about making life smoother for everyone who uses the door.
